Happy New Year! Ready to dive back in? Let’s go!It has been my experience, the education field cycles through lots of different buzzwords. When preparing for interviews or evaluations, how often have teachers asked themselves “can I slip in the current ‘catchwords’?” It is almost like name dropping.
Blah blah blah... Assessment For, As and Of Learning… Blah blah blah... Technology… Blah blah blah... Differentiated Instruction... Cooperative Learning… Student centred… Blah blah blah… Growth Mindset.... It goes on and on and on.
But how many of us can honestly say we’ve got the subtleties, sometimes even the basic, all figured out. Could we be doing more harm than good in our classrooms by only having a surface understanding of these concepts?
I know I don’t have it all figured out. Sometimes it feels like I know less and less as the days go by. But I think that might be a good thing. As long as I am committed to continuing to reflect, learn and grow as I go.
